Shaw + Smith hits the high notes

Shaw & Smith has released its 2020 Sauvignon Blanc (RRP$29), a wine that has become a benchmark for the cool climate Adelaide Hills region and Australian Sauvignon Blanc, with its finesse and more restrained fruit flavours than a New Zealand peer. Low yields and hand harvesting add to its character. Another Adelaide Hills benchmark is the 2019 Shaw + Smith M3 Chardonnay ($49), which defines a new high-watermark for Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, according to Decanter. The 2018 Shaw + Smith Shiraz ($49) adds to the elegance of the new releases, with the cooler climate of the hills giving this wine spice and plum and cherry notes. Handpicked, with whole berries in whole bunches fermented in open fermenters with minimal working. Aged in French oak for fourteen months, of which one third was new. So the oak is elegantly restrained.
